Why couldn't I balance this penguin egg on the equinox?

I bought a penguin egg on e-bay and was told that I could balance it with out support on the spring equinox. It didn't work. So I went to the store and got 12 chicken eggs and tried it. It still didn't work. I've been trying for over 3 weeks and now my kitchen is covered in yolk and membrane and I'm starting to feel like some one was trying to pull a fast one on me. Should I try to get my money back for the penguin egg?
